Let the battle for knowledge begin!
For this activity, you and your partner will work together to discover the answers to all these questions. You may use your History Alive book if you desire. Although, I have provided links to assist you, too. The web sites provided are the ONLY pages you will visit today. All questions are in bold. On a separate sheet of paper, write your answers in complete sentences. Good luck!
- Watch this Brainpop video on the Civil War. How many days did Lincoln think the war would last?
- Take a look at this map. Which side had more states: The (Union) North or the (Confederate) South? How many more did one side have compared to the other?
- Read A Union Soldier Fighting in Virginia in 1863 by visiting this Civil War page. What put a hole through this young soldier’s cap?
- Take a look around these typical slave quarters. (home) Pretend you are a slave living with many others in this small house. With your partner, write a paragraph showing your reader what a day is like as a slave.
- Play “Civil War” by Teacher and the Rockbots. Listen to the lyrics (words) and talk with your partner about what they are trying to tell us. Pick one:
- Write another verse (few lines) to go along with this song.
- Draw at least three detailed pictures about what this song is about. Be creative.
When you are finished, please tell me what you liked or didn’t like by leaving a comment.
